Describe the item properly
Specialty items vary widely in weight and handling needs. A clear description and a few photos help the removalist decide whether the job suits their equipment and crew.
- Item type, brand or model where known
- Approximate size and weight
- Where it sits now and where it is going
- Steps, tight turns or narrow doorways on the route
Specialist handling is never assumed
Some removalists move pianos and pool tables; some don’t. Others may refer to a specialist. The removalist confirms whether they can take the item, what equipment they need and whether dismantling or reassembly is involved.
Prepare the space
Clear the path at both ends and measure doorways, stairwells and lifts. If a pool table slate or piano needs to be tuned or levelled afterwards, ask who arranges that. Those services are not automatically part of a removal.
Ask about cover
Ask what cover applies to a high-value item while it is being moved and what records the removalist keeps at pickup and delivery. Take your own photos of the item’s condition before moving day.
