Work out what needs storing
Storage is quoted on volume and time. Separate what you need straight away from what can wait, and give the removalist your best estimate of how long storage will be needed.
- Items going into storage and items going straight to the new home
- Estimated storage period and whether it may extend
- Collection and delivery addresses
- Anything fragile, valuable or temperature sensitive
Ask how the storage works
Some removalists offer container or warehouse storage; others work with a self-storage facility you access yourself. Ask where your belongings will be held, how access works and how much notice is needed for redelivery.
Plan the second move too
Storage usually means two trips: into storage and out again. Confirm how each is charged, whether the same crew handles both and how access at the final address will be arranged.
Check the paperwork
Ask what records are kept when items go in and come out, what cover applies while in storage and the minimum storage term. The removalist or storage provider confirms all terms directly with you.
